It took two years of research to fully reconstruct the traditional process of making wooden letters for printing. The biggest challenge is to dry the end grain wood properly to prevent cracking. The next challenge is to prepare the slab halves to type height. We are using a 60-year-old pantograph for engraving, so we need to make enlarged scale masters of the letters before production.
Workshop reconstruction was a part of Applause Project. The main goal of the project was to find alternative ways of using invasive and alien plant and tree species.
